Giveaway: Running the Sahara

***UPDATE: Word verification was being weird, so it has been removed for now. Comment away!***

The first ROHO giveaway is here! Thank you to the people at Press For Truth for hooking our friends up!

The giveaway is a free iTunes download of the film, Running the Sahara, a powerful film that chronicles an attempt by three ultra-marathoners to run across the entire length of Africa's Sahara Desert. Their goal is to run across six African countries, anticipating two marathon distances per day, for eighty days...without a day off.

Simply leave a comment in the comments section telling us one of your favorite running-themed movies! The winner will be chosen on Friday, Feb. 27th at 9am PST at random. You must be okay with giving up your email address to the prize source, who has in turn promised not to distribute or spam it.

If you are interested in downloading the film, it's available by HERE via iTunes for $9.99. It sounds AWESOME!

I really liked Run Fatboy Run. It hit on a lot of 'running things' and was hilarious at the same time. Not an inspiring movie per se, but a must see.

Ok I'm C&p-ing :P

Ok I'm going to be the first (but probably 246178361823th person) to say this but Spirit Of The Marathon. Like it doesn't want to make you run a marathon right then and there?

Ohh I'll put my name into the virtual hat. I think I have connected with every running movie I've seen (including the ones mentioned above.) I'll just go with a classic on this and say Chariots of Fire is awesome. :)

Without Limits is my go-to pre-race movie. Gets me inspired every time.

PLUS Billy Crudup as Steve Prefontaine? Swoon...

Ooooh, I have been wanting to see this!

The only ones I have seen are Spirit of the Marathon and Run Fatboy Run... one was good for motivation and one was god for a laugh. Can you guess whih was which??

So, first I'll admit that Marcy pointed me towards your blog. :)

Marathon movies are always good to get me out of a running slump. Every 6 months or so I get crazy bored with the same stuff and for some reason 2 hrs about running perks me right up!

I love Run Fatboy Run. I have watched it on the way to my last few marathons.

Tri-James said...

I've been wanting to see this also!

I gotta say I didn't like Chariots of Fire, I kinda got bored and took a nap!

Run, Fat Boy, Run was pretty funny BUT my running movie...is...not really a running movie per se but nothing gets me going like seeing Rocky run up those famous stairs in Philly...Gonna Fly NOW!

I keep forgetting about your new site! I added it to my Reader, finally!

Hi y'all! I stumbled upon your blog the other day, and I love it!

For me, it's a toss-up between Without Limits and Spirit of the Marathon . . . kind of depends on what kind of mood I'm in and/or what type of motivation I'm looking for.

This looks so cool-- what a great contest. I'm going to say my favorite running-themed movie is Spirit of the Marathon BUT I need to see more...

I love Run Lola Run (or Lola Rent - it's a German movie). It isn't about running, but the main character literally runs through the entire movie. It's hard not to be inspired to get off the couch and go for a run!

"the Spirit of the Marathon" it's the reason why I'm training for a 1/2 marathon right now and eventually will try a full

Run Fatboy Run. I'm happy someone else said they couldn't get into Chariots of Fire. I've NEVER been able to sit still for that movie, although I understand that makes me a poser of a runner, as every "real" runner loved Chariots, don't they?

I'm serious when I say Chariots of Fire. Running with a purpose...and combine that with the spiritual elements...a great film.

Love that run on the beach. Beautiful.

I was definitely disappointed by Chariots of Fire, but watching Spirit of the Marathon in its debut two days prior to the Chicago marathon was awesomely uplifting! Especially watching it with a theater full of runners!

I thought Spirit of the Marathon was quite good, though I believe they did push those newbies a bit too much, hence the many injuries! Ana-Maria

I've never seen Run Fat Boy Run, but I love Simon Pegg.

I decided while watching Spirit of the Marathon that I was going to run Chicago, and I did. So for now, that's my favorite.

The kids and I love Prefontaine. We have both versions, one is a DVD and one on our IPOD.

I have so many (including the ones listed above)! These movies never get old for me: Race for the Soul (Movie about the Western States 100 ultramarathon), Running Under the Sun (movie about the Badwater Ultramarathon), Dean Karnazes' movie on running 50 marathons, in 50 states, in 50 days, The Runner, etc. Keep up the great work... Awesome blog!

oooh The Runner and Running on the Sun, top top movies!

You gurls crack me up #rohos!

If you haven't seen Saint Ralph - I highly recommend it. It's a Canadian Movie about a Marathon near Toronto. Spirit of the Marathon I've watched about 9384753892 times...lol

I think "Spirit of the Marathon" is probably my favorite, though I also like "Run, Lola, Run" too! Yay, rohos!

The Laminator said...

My favorite is "Spirit of the Marathon" too, although I have "Run Fat Boy Run" waiting in my shelf just waiting for when I need something inspiring to watch

Oz Runner said...

The only running movie I've seen is Chariots of Fire, from all these comments I guess I need to watch a lot of other ones...

Velma said...

I like Spirit of the Marathon as well. We need more running movies! Great blog - btw

Apparently I need more running movies in my Netflix queue! I've been meaning to see Spirit of the Marathon for quite some time now. I did enjoy Run, Fatboy, Run - I love goofy movies :)

Lauren said...

I'll go with Prefontane because I haven't seen many running movies and was in love with Jordan Catalano in high school. I do want to see this one though. I can't imagine doing this.

Ax said...

I heard about this movie a while ago, and it sounds amazing.

I haven't seen a whole lot of running flicks, but I loved Without Limits. I was very inspired by it.

mary said...

My fav. funning themed movie is... actually I only can remember one off of the top of my head for now... which is Forrest Gump. Am I lame?

mary said...

Oh yeah, Chariots of Fire. that's my fav. Sorry.

K @ Running Through Life said...

Prefontane inspires me! That and the fact that my mom knew him!

Go ROHOs!

The Distance of Truth (about Badwater-the 135 mile race in Death Valley) is an awesome and moving movie. But watch out for the first few scenes which involve massive toenail issues. Nearly vomitted (which would have reminded me of my 100 milers making the movie even more realistic)

I hear this movie is I hear it is just as inspirational...I need to see it somehow.

Shoe Running said...

Life is like a box of chocolates...and I pick the Forrest Gump! :) I like it when he gets all scruffy and just doesn't care at all :)

lauren said...

I am trying to think of a good running movie I have seen and can only come up with "Run, Fatboy, Run" - which was funny!

Melanie said...

I know everyone keeps saying this, but Run Fatboy Run. I love that it mixes comedy with a sweet story, and it shows that anyone can get out there and run!

Cindy said...

did i get in under the deadline?? hmm, i haven't seen that many running movies. i saw run fatboy run, spirit of the marathon...i think that's it unless you count random movies with 'running' in the title: running man, running on empty (river pheonix? anyone else old enough to remember?), cool runnings, chicken run? i'll vote for spirit of the marathon because it made me verklempt.
